COVID-19 Update – Meals on Wheels Program Modifications

COVID-19 Update – Meals on Wheels Program Modifications

SONY DSC

To safe-guard the health and well-being of our clients, volunteers and staff, several changes have been made to Meals on Wheels operations. For the time being:

-Meals will be delivered 4 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday); double meals will be delivered each day to compensate for the day we do not deliver meals; high-risk, high-need clients will receive wellness calls on non-delivery days.

-Meal delivery vehicles will have a maximum capacity of two runners and one driver; this will vary depending on the vehicle being used. We are also limiting the number of people who can be in the Meals on Wheels kitchen at any given time.

-Volunteers and Staff delivering meals will be asked a set of Covid-19 screening questions prior to being permitted to deliver meals.

– We are asking volunteers not to enter clients’ homes; where possible clients will accept the meal at the front doorway or place the meal inside the home as close to the front door as possible.

We are currently building a roster of volunteers who will have regular shifts. We are also adding names to a reserve list in the event that one or more volunteers are unable to attend. To help ensure your safety, we are not encouraging volunteer applications from anyone:

  • Aged 65 and over
  • With compromised immune systems
  • With underlying medical conditions

If you are interested in volunteering, or would like to have your name added to the reserve roster, please contact: nadia.sayeh@dixonhall.org

Thank you for your continued support.
