Event Alert: Calling Home: Exploring Pathways to Homelessness in our City

Explore the paths to homelessness in our city and join our conversation on the homelessness crisis in Toronto on Wednesday, March 27 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. We’ll be presenting key findings from our Innovative Solutions to Homelessness project, and discussing solutions moving forward.

“Calling Home: Exploring Paths to Homelessness in our City” is Dixon Hall’s first research project.  The project used a community based research approach to work closely with guests from the Out of the Cold program, and shelter residents of Heyworth House. This project is funded by the Government of Canada’s Innovative Solutions to Homelessness program.

Through the project, our research team captured data relating to participants personal journeys and experiences with homelessness through a series of focus groups, surveys, and one-on-one interviews. We also tested the use of cellphone technology within the homeless community by providing study participants with smartphone devices, courtesy of Freedom Mobile. Once research was complete, we compared and contrasted the experiences of OOTC guests vs. shelter residents.

Now, we’re ready to share what we’ve learned and our recommendations for a path forward. The event will also give guests of the OOTC program who participated in the study a platform to speak publicly about their experiences and the different supports and services they’ve accessed in Toronto.

Please RSVP to attend this important event.
