Dixon Hall’s AGM Highlights a Year of Transformative Growth and Community Impact

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Toronto, December 10, 2024 – Dixon Hall convened its Annual General Meeting at Parish Hall to reflect on a year marked by meaningful progress in serving Toronto’s Downtown East community.

This year’s AGM, attended by the Board of Directors and members of Dixon Hall, highlighted milestones including the conversion of the Bond Place Hotel into affordable housing and the opening of the 58 Sumach Community Hub—a vibrant space dedicated to fostering opportunity, connection, and support.

The night began on an inspiring note with keynote speaker Dr. Stephen Hwang, a Professor at the University of Toronto and expert on homelessness and urban health, motivating the audience with insights on addressing systemic challenges. “The reason we [service providers] do this work is because it’s fundamentally right,” he said. “It’s for the love of our neighbours.”

Reflecting on 2024, Cameron Scrivens said:

“From housing and shelter services to music and youth programs, we’re advancing our mission to end poverty and isolation in Toronto. This work is a testament to our dedicated team, generous donors, and resilient community.”

Dixon Hall CEO Mina Mawani also celebrated the organization’s progress:

“Looking back on this past year, I’m deeply moved by the resilience and commitment shown by our partners, volunteers, funders, donors, supporters, and our staff in helping Dixon Hall serve the Downtown East Toronto community. Together, we’ve been creating lasting solutions and positive change for those who need it most.”

Among the Dixon Hall highlights of the past year:

• Housing Initiatives: 280 affordable units created at 65 Dundas Street East.

• Seniors’ Services: Over 63,000 meals delivered to isolated seniors.

• Youth Engagement: 500+ youth benefited from mentorship and music programs.

• Employment Support: 2,100 individuals equipped with skills and job readiness.

The AGM celebrated not just these achievements but also the partnerships and collective effort that make them possible. It was an evening that underscored Dixon Hall’s commitment to fostering a brighter, more inclusive Toronto. For more information on Dixon Hall’s work or to get involved, visit www.dixonhall.org.
