Mitchell Cohen reflects on the power of partnership at Dixon Hall AGM
TORONTO, September 30, 2026: Dixon Hall welcomed Mitchell Cohen, CEO of The Daniels Corporation, as keynote speaker at its 2026 Annual General Meeting yesterday, where he reflected on lessons from the Regent Park revitalization and the importance of partnership in building stronger communities.
Speaking to the AGM’s theme, “Building Meaningful Change, Together,” Cohen drew on more than 20 years of work in Regent Park and his book Rhythms of Change: Reflections on the Regent Park Revitalization. He spoke about the importance of listening to residents, respecting local knowledge and bringing together community organizations, government, the private sector and other partners around a shared vision.
Cohen highlighted Dixon Hall’s longstanding role in the evolution of Regent Park, including its work with residents, children and youth, employment programs and community infrastructure. He described neighbourhood transformation as a collective effort, with each partner contributing to the broader community.
“Successful neighbourhood transformation must come together from the ground up, rather than top down,” Cohen said. “It requires many hands and many partners, listening to each other, respecting each other and welcoming what each participant brings to the table.”
His remarks reflected Dixon Hall’s AGM theme, reinforcing the organization’s belief that lasting change is built through collaboration and meaningful engagement with the communities it serves.
Cohen also spoke about the future of Downtown East Toronto and the importance of continuing to build strong social and community connections alongside physical development.
“Mitchell’s reflections reinforced the importance of strong partnerships and collaboration in shaping the future of Downtown East Toronto,” said Cameron Scrivens, Chair of the Dixon Hall Board of Directors. “His experience highlighted the value of bringing community organizations, residents, government and private-sector partners together to support sustainable community development.”
