A fire occurred during the evening of February 14 at the Bond Place Hotel. The Hotel is currently serving as a shelter, leased to the City of Toronto, and is being operated by Dixon Hall. The fire was contained by Toronto Fire and there were no injuries.
The Scheinberg Relief Fund created an opportunity for us to act quickly and effectively for those in our community who needed a helping hand. Without their help, we might not have been able to offer some of these essential community programs. To celebrate the end of the 2020 school year, Dixon Hall Music School hosted its first ever virtual recital featuring over 60 performers! We want to extend our gratitude to our amazing teachers, our talented students, and for everyone who came out to support the event, and enjoy a night of music, entertainment and community.
This week marked the first official Emergency Shelter and Homelessness Service Workers Recognition Week in Toronto. The special event was officially announced by the Mayor’s Office after recognizing the vital work and dedication demonstrated by workers in the housing sector, with a particular focus recognizing their efforts throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic.
There’s no question that the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened existing food insecurity for residents of Cabbagetown, St. James Town and Regent Park. Many small businesses are also reeling from the financial impacts brought on by the pandemic.
